Both Sides of the Lens: The Charisma and Enigma of Angus McBean with Dr Marjorie Coughlan

Dr Marjorie Coughlan (University of York) will give a more in-depth look into Angus McBean's history with some additional works on display and an illustrated talk.
The Angus Mcbean Photography Exhibition is open until Sunday 4th October, kindly loaned to HAC by a local supporter in aid of Light Up HAC!
Angus McBean (1904-1990) was one of the principal theatre photographers in Britain from 1935, when he opened his own studio in London, until his retirement in 1974.  He was the go-to photographer for stars of the stage and screen. His portraits of legends such as Marlene Dietrich, Margot Fonteyn, John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Ivor Novello and Laurence Olivier now have iconic status – as do his later photos of the Beatles: the much-parodied EMI balcony shots from their debut album Please, Please Me (1963) and the Red (1962-1966) and Blue (1967-1970) compilation albums of 1973.
