Aireborough Gilbert & Sullivan Society return to Helmsley with another popular Opera. H.M.S. Pinafore was the fourth of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Collaborations, which opened at the Opera Comique in 1878 and ran for 571 performances. It still remains as one of the most popular G&S operas today. The pompous First Lord of the Admiralty, the snobbish Captain and his ‘dear little Buttercup’ daughter, (who is in love with a common sailor) combine to produce a light-hearted and comic operetta.
