Discovering MacDonald Gill; architect, artist and mapmaker

Lecturer: Caroline Walker

After embarking on family history research in 2006, Caroline became fascinated in the life and work of her great uncle MacDonald Gill.  Although well known in his time, he was all but forgotten after his death unlike his brother Eric Gill, the controversial sculptor.

The resurgence of interest in Max Gill is largely due to Caroline, who has curated exhibitions, written for various publications and lectured on his many achievements.

The National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies has changed its name to The Arts Society. The Helmsley branch is now The Arts Society Helmsley
