Beatrix Potter, Artist and Illustrator – from Rabbits to Peter Rabbit
Lecturer Libby Joy first discovered that there was more to Beatrix Potter than the Tales when she was commissioned to edit a book about her thirty years ago. As a freelance editor and researcher – both for Potter’s biographers and for her publisher Frederick Warne, as well as for The Beatrix Potter Society – Libby continues to be fascinated by the life and legacy of this multi-talented woman. In this talk, she explores Potter’s skill as an artist and her knowledge of natural history to show what lies behind the famous little book illustrations and to reveal her less-well-known artistic achievements.
